Four billion to be allocated to set up WorldSkills competence centres in Kazan

To prepare for the WorldSkills international championship in Kazan, Russian Federation develops a responsibility distribution concept envisaging the establishment of interregional competence centres. To do that, 4 billion roubles will be allocated from the federal budget, Tatarstan Education and Science Minister Engel Fattakhov told a today’s meeting chaired by Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov.

“In 2016, six interregional competence centres responsible for particular occupations will be set up to prepare for the 2019 world championship. They are information technologies, transport maintenance and logistics, art and design, service sector, industrial manufacturing, and construction. Four billion roubles, or 165 million roubles a year, is allocated from the federal budget,” he told those present.

According to Engel Fattakhov, regions will be selected in October-November, the compulsory requirement for each region being co-financing and partnership with universities.

“The centres will carry out their activities not on the basis of the current education standards but rather be developers themselves, in partnership with industrial manufacturers,” the minister said.

Besides, he noted that the Tatarstan’s set of occupations was IT that included 11 professions. “Setting the centre up at Innopolis is proposed to be considered,” Engel Fattakhov said.
