Tatarstan President visits ethnic education centre in Kazan

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on Sunday visited an ethnic education centre in Kazan. On 1 September, the Tatar preparatory school No 2 after Marjani began to operate for the first time in this status.

Tatarstan’s chief executive was accompanied by Education and Science Minister Engel Fattakhov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, World Congress of Tatars Executive Committee Chair Rinat Zakirov, and others.

Rustam Minnikhanov viewed Shigabutdin Marjani’s ethnic education museum housed by the centre, a display of Baki Urmanche’s works, XX Century's Echo museum, arts workshop and gym.

Centre’s director Kamaria Khamidullina told journalists 600 children studied at the centre. The centre’s main feature is continuous education in the native language based on the people’s history, traditions and culture through providing continuity between kindergarten, high school and university.

The educational establishment is designed to be a resource centre for Tatarstan Education Ministry, World Congress of Tatars’ Executive Committee, and Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, whose task is to collect and spread native language education practices, to help regions in Tatarstan and Russia.

The centre’s main purpose is to preserve and promote the traditions of ethnic education, language, culture and history of the Tatar people.
